// September 30th, 2009 // 2 Comments » // Research Projects

A few weeks after we posted a video on a Gutter cleaning robot, we have two teams working in parallel on an indigenous Water clog removal robot. One team comprises of a set of final year engineering students interning with us. The other team comprises of research associates from Robotixlab Research Academy.

The aim is to develop a completely autonomous robot that would detect and remove clogs in underground sewage pipelines. The primary focus of Robotixlab Research academy is to create a robot with a social benefit.

As of now, Both teams are working independently and doing ground work. Once this phase is completed, they will work together, discuss and share ideas in regular brainstorming sessions. Robotixlab research academy wishes them all the very best in coming up with a complete product that will solve a huge problem and improve the quality of life through robotics.

Workshop On Robotics Engineering @ Saveetha Engineering college

// September 24th, 2009 // 3 Comments » // Events

Robotix Lab research academy conducted a “workshop on Robotics Engineering” at Saveetha Engineering college on the 24th of september, 2009. Robotix lab research academy has rich experience in handling robotics workshops for school children. This was a first of its kind workshop designed for college students. The workshop involved a a general introduction to robotics and a hands-on session. There were reading material for the students and all the required components were provided to them. Around 50 students from various colleges took part in the event, which was a huge success.

The first part of the workshop concentrated on “Brush your electronics”, which ensured that all the students who took part had the necessary electronic  know-how. The “Brush your electronics” program taught students basic concepts of electronics required for robotics and gave a practical session on the bread board. Once a few sample circuits were done by the students, we moved on to the second part of the workshop, which was: building a  line follower robot.

The workshop taught them how to create a line follower bot. A line follower bot is the simplest exercise in robotics, where the robot senses a black line on the floor and follows it. Students were excited in learning how to make a fully autonomous robot with sensors and actuators. Students started from scratch and built a complete autonomous Line follower robot and tested it on the sample map we provided.

Robotix lab research academy provides a platform for students who are interested in robotics, but do not find enough material or qualified personnel to teach them. Most of the students who took part in the workshop shared the same view. They were very much interested in robotics, but have never found the right channel of training and education until now. They were very happy with entire workshop and took away a complete line follower robot.

Robotics research is going on at a feverish pace all over the world. Koreans, Japanese and Americans are years ahead of Indians in the field of robotics. The biggest problem with robotics research in India are two-fold:

A) Awareness: People, especially students, are not aware of the opportunities, challenges and rewards of working in the robotics field. Scientific breakthroughs are happening daily in the field of robotics. Students need to be abreast with the latest advancement the rest of the world is making in this field, so they can come up with their own inventions.

B) Pricing: The materials and expertise required to conduct research in Robotics are neither easily available nor affordable.

Center for Robotics and Research Academy (CRRA) aims to break both these barriers and bring robotics to the young, fresh, talented and intelligent minds of Indians. The Robot Soccer League (RPL) 2009 is a step in that direction. By combining sports and toys, both of which will pique children’s curiosity, CRRA aims to instill interest in the young minds of children.

The structure of the Robot Premier League (2009) is as follows:

RPL 2009: India's first ever Robot Soccer League
